Why does Graas focus on GMV rather than Revenue?

GMV Versus Revenue

Graas uses Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) to give you a bigger picture of how your products are performing. By focusing on GMV, you can get a better sense of how much demand there is for your products and track how your sales are growing over time.

What does each channel considers as Revenue?

Different marketplaces like Shopee, Amazon, and Lazada each have their own way of reporting revenue since there's no standard method across the industry.

Below is a table explaining how each marketplace calculates revenue:

See the bigger picture with GMV:

  1. It will show you the potential market for your products. GMV considers all the sales made through your store without removing any cancellations, returns, or unpaid orders.

  2. GMV represents the actual sales value of products without adjustments or deductions made by marketplaces. This is explained in detail in the table below.

  3. Unlike revenue, GMV considers sales when the order is placed, giving you a real-time picture of the demand for your products..

  4. Think of GMV as the total pie of your sales activity. From this pie, you can easily calculate other useful metrics like- Cancelled Amount, Returned Amount, and NMV (Net Merchandise Value), Paid GMV, providing more detailed insights into sales performance.

  5. Traffic(Views/Visitors/Sessions) correlates more with GMV than Revenue. More views and visits often lead to higher GMV.  It can potentially translate into higher GMV in this manner: Traffic -> Add to Cart->GMV->GMV(Paid)->NMV.

What metric should I look for in Graas?

  • If you are looking for real time revenue (as close to the marketplace seller center and/or D2C admin panel), look for the metric named Channel Revenue.
  • If you are looking for revenue numbers but don’t mind a slight delay in data, then the metric Revenue is the one for you. This is dependent on the Chrome Extension and has a one day delay.
  • You can know the demand for your products and the  market potential by looking at GMV. GMV shows the total value of all orders, irrespective of  payment and order statuses. You can then analyze how many orders had incomplete payment or were canceled or returned and strategize on how to improve those so you can  realize your full potential.
  • Lastly, if you only want to see your net sales (without canceled and returned orders), then NMV is the metric for you.

You can look at these very easily within the platform by using the Chart Builder.
